Sixty-three runners and walkers participated in the first annual Dollars for Scholars 5K Walk/Run to support The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars youth leadership program. The event was held Saturday, Sept. 7, starting at The Center.

“We are so grateful to have such a tremendous support base for the Rogers Scholars program. Given this was our first 5K event, we are thrilled with the number of people that turned out to run and walk.” Said Delaney Stephens, The Center’s Youth Programs Coordinator and Community Liaison. “The event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: The Center for Rural Development, Walmart, Clear Channel Radio, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Adams & Venters, Alton Blakley Family of Dealerships, City of Somerset, Citizens National Bank; Evans, Harville, Atwell & Company; Key Associates Waterfront Realty, Somerset-Pulaski County CVB, and LakeCumberlandLiving.com. The Center also expresses its gratitude to its many volunteers who helped contribute to the success of the event.”

Adam Bourne was the overall male winner and Rachel Cain was the overall female winner. Adam finished in a time of 20:03.39, and Rachel’s time was 23:39.27. Thanks to all of the runners and walkers for supporting the Rogers Scholars youth leadership program.
