First class of Rogers Explorers were at Asbury this week.

Rogers Explorer Sarah Lycans of Lawrence County couldn’t contain her excitement on Monday in the chemistry lab at Asbury University in Wilmore.

Sarah was about to begin her first lab experiment in a chemistry lab on a major university campus under the supervision of a college instructor.

“This is so cool,” she said as she mixed the test sample to get the desired outcome. “I have never done anything like this before. And I would do it again.”

“I thought it was pretty cool too!” added her lab partner Rogers Explorer Meredith Addington of Boyd County.

The first class of 2016 Rogers Explorers—all incoming high school freshmen—has been on the campus of Asbury University this week and will graduate on Wednesday (June 8) from the program.

Rogers Explorers is presented by The Center for Rural Development in partnership with Asbury University. Lindsey Wilson College, University of the Cumberlands, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, and University of Pikeville.
