Dear ELI Participant:
As summer vacation is underway, I hope you are looking forward to your participation in the Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute (ELI) program! The time is fast approaching when you will be joining us in Somerset, and we are very excited as that date nears. This packet of information is designed to provide you with all the information you need in order to be prepared for your time with us.
ELI participants must be transported to and from the program by their parents/guardians and will not have access to a personal vehicle throughout the week. Your first order of business upon arriving in Somerset on Monday is to check-in at the hotel. Our staff will be there to greet you. We will be staying at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel. The hotel is located adjacent to The Center for Rural Development at 2254 S Highway 27. Check-in begins at 10:00 am Eastern Time, and we ask that you check-in no later than 10:30 am.
Following check-in, participants and their families should proceed to The Center for Rural Development. The Center is located directly adjacent to the hotel, so once you park at the hotel you can walk over to The Center. At 11:00 am, a welcome reception will be held for all ELI participants and their families. At the conclusion of the reception (approximately 11:30 am), parents and families will depart and the Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute program will be underway!
If you plan to call home during the week, you will need to use a cell phone. No phone calls can be charged to your hotel room. In case of an emergency, your family may contact you at The Center (606) 677-6000 during the day or by contacting Allison Cross directly at (606) 307-0561.
Dress Code/What to Bring:
Dress will be casual throughout the week except Friday when ELI participants are asked to dress in business professional attire. On Friday, ladies should wear a dress, pant/skirt suit, or skirt and blouse and gentlemen should wear a dress shirt, dress pants, tie, and may wear a suit jacket or sport coat if they choose. ELI participants will be provided with an Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute t-shirt to wear as well on one of the days. You may want to bring a jacket or sweatshirt as well just in case you get cold from time to time. There is a pool at the hotel, so please pack swim gear if you plan on swimming. Since all your meals, lodging, and activities are paid for you need very little money – only for vending machine snacks or other small incidentals.
Electronic Devices/Personal Items:
The use of cell phones and other electronic items are limited to the ELI participants’ hotel rooms and during free time. Even so, students are solely responsible for the personal items they bring and are strongly discouraged from bringing unnecessary items. If you do choose to bring any of these items, you must remember to leave them in your hotel room and do so at your own risk. Participants will be provided a laptop computer to use during the course of the week but is to only be used for work pertaining to the program.
Graduation/Presentation to Parents/Departure
On Friday afternoon, the program will conclude with the announcement of the business plan award winners. The Friday afternoon ceremony also includes a presentation by ELI participants. Parents and families are invited to attend the ceremony. Parents and families may begin arriving at 4:45 pm EDT and proceed directly to the Theatre. The ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm, and is scheduled to end by 6:00 pm. You will have already checked out of your hotel room Friday morning, so once the ceremony concludes you will be returning home with your parents.
If you or your parents have any questions about the Entrepreneurial Leadership Institute program or anything included in this information packet please feel free to call me at (606) 677-6000. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. You can also email me at email@example.com
We hope you are as excited about the program as we are. We have a week of fun, challenging activities planned for you and look forward to meeting you very soon!
