2019 Rogers Scholar Emma Maynard of Taylor County loves animals.

For her Rogers Scholars community service project, Maynard organized a Furry Friends 5K Walk-Run in October to support the Taylor County Animal Shelter.

The high school junior presented the $400 raised through the event to animal shelter director Mandy Van Winkle. The money was used to spay and neuter four animals, one of which had been at the shelter for almost one year.

“I have always loved animals, and this was a great opportunity for me to help animals at my local shelter,” she said.

Emma is the daughter of Sean and Kathy Maynard of Campbellsville.
