2019 Rogers Scholar Lauren Shackleford of Whitley County organized an “Extraordinary Bowling Tournament” for Corbin elementary, middle, and high school students who typically would not be able to play competitive sports.

Shackleford is a junior at Corbin High School and five-year member of her high school bowling team, Rollin Redhounds.

“I enjoyed being able to plan a sporting event for students who would not otherwise have this possibility. It is my hope that this event will become an annual opportunity that could include other school districts in the Tri-County area. I also have hope that, from this event, more students will show an interest in participating in Unified Sports, such as bowling.”

Seventeen students participated in the tournament.

Lauren is the daughter of George and Melissa Shackleford of Corbin.
