2019 Rogers Scholar and Wolfe County High School student Jayla Lindon organized an “Adopt an Elementary Child for Christmas” program this past December. Lindon worked with peers and Youth Service Center leaders to collect donations and identify elementary school students for the program. Students enjoyed Christmas gifts along with refreshments and visits from Santa, his elves, and the Grinch.
“Through this project, I learned a lot,” Lindon said. “I learned that through being a leader you can brighten the lives of those around you. I came out of this project with the happiest heart, seeing the smiles of those twenty sweet children!”
Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
