2019 Rogers Scholar and Leslie County High School student John Buckle organized a holiday dinner at Central Presbyterian Church during the past holiday season. Buckle invited members of the church, residents of Beechwood Apartments, and Mary Breckinridge Hospital. Buckle also had meals delivered to residents who could not come to the dinner.

“This experience absolutely made my Christmas,” Buckle said. “I had a lot of fun while helping others who were so appreciative of our efforts. There is no better feeling than helping others and interacting with them. Community service makes me realize just how fortunate and blessed I truly am and that I have a responsibility to help others who may not have the same fortune and blessings.”

Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
