In honor of 2021 National Day of Prayer, 2020 Rogers Scholar and Martin County High School student Sykla Messer delivered hand-written cards with her favorite scripture verses to 60 nursing home residents at Martin County Health Care facility.

The Rogers Scholars community service project, “Restoring Faith During the Pandemic,” allowed Messer to shine a light of faith and hope in her community.

“This project holds a special place in my heart. My great-grandfather was a resident in this nursing home. I’ve seen how a small act of kindness can make the residents’ day. I am honored to bring a smile to these wonderful people.”

Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
