2020 Rogers Scholar and Jenkins High School student Austin Johnson presents a check in the amount of $1,325 to Chrystal Bentley, director of the nonprofit organization SmileFaith Appalachia, for his “Light Up Jenkins” community service project.

Austin raised funds through business and community donations to help purchase string lights in an effort to brighten up the city of Jenkins and make it look more attractive for residents and guests.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of this project that positively impacts the town I’ve grown up in. Rogers Scholars has been a unique and enlightening experience that has helped me learn and grow.”

Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
