The holidays would not be the same without the sound of music. Due to COVID-19 restrictions last year, First Christian Church of Somerset was not able to continue its tradition of spreading the Christmas joy by caroling to shut-ins.

2020 Rogers Scholar Mary Lesher decided to create, plan and implement a virtual caroling experience. Church members were invited to record a selection of Christmas songs on video, which was released online.

“This project allowed the older isolated members of our church to still get to experience the Christmas joy, even in the midst of a pandemic. Christmas is my favorite season and I am so glad I was able to share that hope and joy during uncertain times.”

Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
