2021 Rogers Scholar and Lawrence County High School student Victoria Penix donated food and pet supplies to the Lawrence County KY Humane Society’s Open Arms Animal Shelter for her community service project.

“As an avid animal lover, I’ve always had compassion and a heavy heart for animals. I knew from the start that I wanted to help as many homeless and needy animals as possible. This was an eye-opening experience, not only because I got a look into how many animals the shelter helps, but also how many people in my community were willing to stand up and support my project.”

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
