2021 Rogers Scholar and Pulaski County High School student Henry Gillum donated 19 port pillows to patients at Lake Cumberland Cancer Treatment Center for his community service project.

In honor of his paternal grandparents who died from cancer, Henry learned to sew and made port pillows for patients to use while undergoing cancer treatments.

“Through this community service project, I wanted to help current and future cancer patients by creating something for them that will make them more comfortable as they face unpleasant and difficult treatments. This project has provided me with the opportunity to learn a new skill (how to sew) and given me the satisfaction of knowing that I am helping someone in need.”

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
