When 2022 Rogers Scholar Hayden Watkins of Rowan County learned a college-bound student lost everything in the Eastern Kentucky floods, he wanted to help.

Hayden launched a GoFundMe page and raised $750 to purchase college supplies for a Knott County student.

“Knott County, although I am not from there, has always felt like a second home to me, because I have so many friends who live there. It’s important to show why I love living in Eastern Kentucky so much – we are here to help each other.”

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project.
