2022 Rogers Scholar Sydnie Deaton, a student at Lee County Middle High School, brought her community together for a hot meal to raise money for the Eastern Kentucky flood relief efforts.

Sydnie partnered with school officials, city leaders, and students to organize a fundraiser to support the flood victims.

“To see my Eastern Kentucky neighbors going through such a tragic time absolutely broke my heart. I immediately wanted to help and without knowing specifically what they needed, I knew money would be best. Seeing my hometown pull together to help support these victims makes me smile. I’m forever grateful that I was able to help these victims.”

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project.
