2022 Rogers Scholar and Harlan County High School student Kenneth Sergent combined two of his favorite things – kayaking and the river – to better serve his community.
He and a group of volunteers loaded up their kayaks and paddled up and down the river picking up trash and debris.
“I was raised in and around the river. Over the years, my friends and I would play in the river and have made so many memories doing so. I want other kids to be able to make the same memories that I did.”
Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
