Tracy Dawn Horn Scholarship

The Center for Rural Development would like to announce the Tracy Dawn Horn Scholarship for 2019 Rogers Scholars. Students who are interested in a career in the healthcare field can apply for this $500 scholarship. The Deadline is April 1, 2021.

Tracy Dawn Horn was a wonderful nurse and loving mother to two beautiful daughters, Allison and Lauren. She was loved and respected by her patients, her coworkers, and her employers. In 1997, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Morehead State University where she gathered many honors. Before her untimely tragic death in 2017, Tracy had experienced a wide variety of nursing positions. She began as a labor and delivery nurse at ARH in Williamson, West Virginia, worked the med-surgery floor at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington and Mary Chiles in Mt. Sterling, served at the Martin County Health Department but found her favorite niche as a home health nurse for Highlands Home Health in Prestonsburg and Martin County Home Health in Inez.

Tracy exhibited all the qualities necessary to make a top-notch nurse. Above all, she was compassionate and caring, always exhibited calmness under pressure, had empathy for the condition of her patients, gave attention to detail, could solve problems, provided comfort as well as care, and followed directions to the letter.

Tracy would have been so pleased to have this scholarship organized by her daughter Allison and presented in her honor to a deserving Rogers Scholar who will be pursuing a career in the healthcare field. Tracy’s daughters Allison and Lauren were both Rogers Scholars in 2017 and 2019 respectively. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to the 2019 Scholar who best exhibits the love of the healthcare field and the characteristics Tracy set as a successful nurse.
