2021 Rogers Scholar Ben Garland, a student at Russell County High School, collected donations from the community to purchase much-needed supplies for the Lake Cumberland Children’s Advocacy Center for his community service project. The center requested cleaning supplies, snacks, and bottled water.

“It gives me a sense of great satisfaction knowing that I am helping children, even in a small way, during a very dark time in their lives. Knowing that when they come here for a medical exam or therapy, they will have their basic needs met, whether that’s a bottle of water or snacks, is gratifying. It makes me feel like I am making a difference.”

Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
