2021 Rogers Scholar Laynee Stevens, a student at Menifee County High School, organized a community service project to thank veterans in her community.

She presented veterans at the local VA clinic with a small gift to show her appreciation. Each veteran received a white paper bag filled with a dog tag necklace, thank-you notes, and other items.

“This project allowed me to show veterans my gratitude toward them and what they have sacrificed. Hopefully, I have made a small difference in their lives by showing them that people still have respect for them, and always will, so doing Operation Thank a Veteran allowed me to show my appreciation.”

Each graduate of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program is required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
