2022 Rogers Scholar and Pulaski County High School student Camden Tackett presents one of 55 backpacks he stuffed with donated items to the Somerset Fire Department to distribute to children who have experienced a traumatic event.

Each backpack is filled with comfort items: a stuffed animal, a blanket, a coloring book, crayons, and a picture book.

“My thought was, firefighters could disperse these backpacks when called to the scene of a car accident, a house fire, or other similar traumatic events to make a child in need smile and know they are cared for. Having a positive impact on someone else’s life reminds me of the value I bring and gives my life purpose.”

First Christian Church of Somerset members and the community at-large donated to “A Hug for You” community service project.

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
