2022 Rogers Scholar and McCreary Central High School student Tate Sandidge asked for help to restore the landscape at the local golf course, and he got it from the community.

Community leaders stepped up to provide the mulch and tools; Kentucky Extension Master Gardner Program provided the expertise; and students volunteered to help with much of the labor.

“This project meant a lot to me, because I wanted to give back to my community. Without the golf course, a big part of our heritage would be lost.”

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
