2022 Rogers Scholar and Shelby Valley High School student Elaina Tackett made port pillows for patients who are undergoing chemo or infusion therapy for her community service project.

“I’m interested in going into the medical field, specifically oncology. I already knew I wanted my project to pertain to oncology in some way. After talking to some patients who had to have a port, I realized I could make something to help with the pain and irritation caused by seatbelts and offer some encouragement during such a difficult time.”

Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program are required to complete a community service project. For more information about Rogers Scholars, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
